About Me

Hi I'm Emma,

A Clinical Hypnotherapist & NLP Practitioner based rurally in Waikato, New Zealand.

I grew up on a sheep and beef farm in a small rural community, where hard work, practical skill development and taking on large amounts of responsibility were part of everyday life. Farming was a big part of my life growing up and later saw me pursue a career as a shepherd.

Before taking up a career in shepherding I completed an Agricultural Science degree at Massey University and was accepted into the first intake of a program aimed at advancing women in agriculture called the Fairlight Foundation. The program was a big part of my journey to date and is partly the reason I have gone onto do what I am doing now.

One of the core values of the program that I resonated with was “Be Well” which puts an emphasis on the fact that the “she’ll be right” mentality isn’t sustainable and that both physical and mental wellbeing should be considered to create a balanced lifestyle. This stayed with me as I went on to work as a shepherd after the program finished.

Like many people, I have experienced my own challenges with mental and emotional wellbeing. While most who live and work rurally have a strong sense of connection to their rural life, there can also be an unspoken expectation to just “get on with it” when things feel difficult.

A big turning point in my personal and professional journey occurred when I decided to step outside of my comfort zone and give therapy a go. With the Fairlight mentality of "Be Well" in mind I was able to recognise the importance of mental health but it wasn't until I went through the therapy process that I was able to truely embrace the idea that just as I prioritise my physical wellbeing through movement and diet, I should also dedicate time and effort to do the same for my mental and emotional wellbeing.

During sessions I experienced firsthand the profound impact of being truely heard, supported and understood without judgment. Getting to the root cause of the challenges I was experiencing, processing past experiences and gaining tools to use in everyday life were valuable take aways. That experience stayed with me and ultimately inspired my path into becoming a therapist myself.

"Being able to combine my love for farming, my passion for helping others cultivate more fulfilling lives and my interest in improving the overall health and wellbeing of those in rural communities, has been a rewarding purpose driven journey"

I have always enjoyed challenging myself whether that be personally or professionally. Personally that is often through sport or other forms of movement. Whether it be team sports, the gym, running or tramping I like to use movement as a way to develop physical and mental resilience. Professionally it has led me to seek continual opportunity to develop my skills and capabilities.

Today, I have a strong passion for rural mental health and for supporting people who are feeling overwhelmed, anxious, emotionally stretched, or carrying the impact of past experiences and trauma. I understand the unique pressures that can come with rural life, work demands, and limited access to support, and I aim to offer a space that feels inviting and comfortable.

My approach is warm, empathetic, and collaborative. During our sessions I will help guide you to the relevant information held within your own mind. Together, we will focus on building understanding, emotional regulation, and developing habits that align with your values and your desired way of living.
